Chapter 11

Deb missed Killian. She cried herself to sleep the first night. The second night, she spent wearing one of his t-shirts. When Candace called on the third night, she broke down. She went to Candace’s place, and they had dinner and drinks, talking about the guys.

She revealed to Candace she missed having sex, and that she had to masturbate every day just to get through it.

Candace bit her lower lip and flushed. “So when I was held captive, they raped me. It turned me off sex. I mean with Archer, it’s okay, but I want it planned.”

“That makes sense,” Deb said.

“Also, I like for his hands to be tied to the bed. That way, I get to direct what we do.”

“Oh, that’s awesome that he does that. I know for some men bondage on them is a hard no. It’s great that he allows you to take control.”

Candace’s cheeks turned pink. “It’s not something he probably wants the other guys knowing about, and I shouldn’t have said anything.”

“Trust me, I won’t say anything to any of the other guys or their women. That’s your secret to tell. And please don’t tell anyone about me needing so much sex. Seriously, I sometimes think something is wrong with me. I want sex all the time. When Slayer comes home, if I’m there before him, I usually strip off my clothes, so the first thing he thinks about is having sex.”

Candace put her hand on Deb’s shoulder. “This talk will be our secret because you’re right, not everyone would understand.”

Deb bit her lower lip, hesitating before she asked. “Did you get enough counseling after the incident?”

Candace shrugged. “I guess so.”

“You know, what I do is kind of like the counseling you need. Of course, you can’t come to me because we’re already friends, but if I had a client who had been through what you had, I would suggest they get follow-ups every few months.”

Candace winced. “Do you really think I need it?”

Deb put her hand on Candace’s arm and squeezed. “I do. I think it would be a good mental health thing to do. You have a lot on your plate. You are the primary caregiver to a child who isn’t yours, you could end up being the child’s parent if something happens, your partner is in a crazy stressful job, and you have this in your past. It’s enough stress some people who haven’t had trauma end up needing counseling just to talk it through.”

Candace nodded as her eyes went unfocused. “Adam is great.”

“I’m sure he is if he’s anything like Killian. They are all good men in that unit, but he can’t take on everything.”

“No, and I shouldn’t expect him to. I’ll call tomorrow and set up an appointment just to talk. You know, I just need a little help.”

“I’m sure you do. I have my own counselor, and she has her own. It’s important to get things off your chest and talk through them. Sometimes, that’s how we find the best solutions.
